This month, there are lots of exciting things happening, as well as lots of things to be aware of.
On April 14, a group of high school students will be attending a career fair at the state fairgrounds in Des Moines. This event is called Build My Future. At this event, students will be exposed to a variety of skilled trade careers and get to practice industry skills through hands-on exhibits. Careers displayed include, construction, military, law enforcement, IT, electricians, automotive/mechanic, healthcare, emergency services, and much more. If your student is attending, please make sure to sign and return the permission form by April 9.
If you have a junior or senior, remind them to check the calendar for up-coming college representatives that they are interested in. For the month of April, there is currently one visit schedules. Buena Vista University will have a rep on April 6.
Registration forms for SWCC classes are due on Friday, April 16. This is for online classes, career academics, and classes at the Osceola center. If your student is wanting to take advantage of these opportunities, please remind them to get the registration form completed before the deadline.
SENIOR PARENTS! Graduation is quickly approaching. Please remind your student to keep me informed of post-secondary plans. Also, there are several deadlines for local scholarships coming up this month. Remind students to come see me to get the applications for local scholarships. Local scholarships are a GREAT way for students to help pay for college, as they are only competing against local kids.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
Have a great month!
