Academic Competition Team

Sponsor: Laura Hollinger
The Murray Academic Team competes in quiz bowl competition by answering questions dealing with all topics of human knowledge, including: math, science, social studies, literature, fine arts, sports, and general trivia.  Academic team members benefit from studying a broad range of academic subjects, increasing memorization and study skills, learning to work in teams in a cooperative and competitive arena.

A quiz bowl competition is typically played with a lockout buzzer system between two teams of six players each. A moderator reads questions to the teams, whose players try to be the first buzz in with a correct answer. If correct, they score points for their team. The team with the most points at the end of the round, wins.

State HOSA competition is held in March every year in Des Moines, and if students place in the top 3 in their event they are eligible to compete at Nationals which are held every June. This year’s 2020-2021 nationals will be held in Orlando, Florida.

We strive to use our time, talent, and treasures to enhance our community and promote the love of mankind.
